COVID-19 UPDATE (April 24, 2020)

Since our last update, local county officials called an emergency meeting on April 23, 2020 to not only hear from our Sherriff on how his officers will be able to service and properly manage any changes to the orders, we heard from our TDC representative that was able to give current and projected occupancy numbers of those visiting the area but local officials also listened to citizens from the community and their feedback. See below for the results of this meeting:

Walton County BCC Directs County Attorney to Draft Language to Open Beaches on May 1st

During their 11:00 a.m. meeting on Thursday, April 23rd, the Walton County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) voted to direct the County Attorney, Sidney Noyes, to draft language regarding the opening of Walton County’s beaches, and to bring he language forward at the April 28th BCC meeting for a vote.

As part of the direction, Noyes will be drafting language that would allow all Walton County Beaches to open on May 1st with no time restrictions regarding access. Additionally, the following items are to be included in the language:

• Continue the ban on all beach vending
• Require that social distancing guidelines as put forth by the CDC are being adhered to
• Limitation of allowed activities in accordance with Governor’s Executive Orders

This item will be included on the agenda for a final vote during the BCC’s regular meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 9:00 am in the DeFuniak Springs Board Room located at 571 U.S. Highway 90 in DeFuniak Springs.

Our update on April 1, 2020 reflects current operations as of today. However, with several neighboring counties beginning to announce the reopening of the beaches, we wanted to give you an update in Walton county.

We will continue to follow state and local orders as they come. On April 30 or May 1, it is anticipated that we will receive information from our state officials. Once this happens, our local county officials will meet to determine what is best for our county. As soon as we have more information, we will be able to communicate our club’s plan to members.

Thank you again to our members for your understanding and support during this time. We hope you are all staying safe and well!
