We all know that the better our health conditions, the better we feel and the better we perform.

Advances in the game have come a long way with the use of golf club and golf ball technology and the use of video. What has also been a positive trend over the years is fitness – improving strength and flexibility. Fortunately, there is a great way to improve both at the same time…it’s called YOGA. Personally, I have been practicing yoga for many years and I can’t overstate the benefits I have derived from yoga, both mentally and physically.

Listed below are just some of the benefits of yoga that carry over into your golf game:

Calmness of the mind – As we know, there is a lot of commotion going on emotionally and mentally during a round of golf. Think how much better you would play if you knew how to improve your focus, how to handle a poor shot and how to return to a calm place to prep for the next shot.

Relaxation and flexibility – When the body is flexible and has the feeling of being relaxed, we can improve the fluidity, balance and rhythm in our swings, and therefore, improve contact.

Strength – Strength training is often overlooked and underestimated when someone thinks of yoga. Give it and try and you will be amazed at the physical challenge and the increase of your strength without lifting weights. Increasing strength often leads to increasing distance!

Injury prevention – Knowing and practicing correct stretching techniques is a great way to ward off potential injuries.

Injury improvement – Practicing yoga can help to improve specific body restrictions or injuries that you may be dealing with which, in turn, will improve your golf swing.

Adaptability – Regardless of your age, present physical condition, level of flexibility or strength, a routine can be developed and personalized to suit each individual’s needs.
